Probably Rory's most disappointing album.
Out of the 11 songs I found 3 are good and 2 are decent. The rest is fluff. Rory's most disappointing album in my humble opinion. Still, it' s Rory and I must own it.

Good, but there's better
Have just about everything by Rory, so I thought i'd get this to round out the collection. Maybe I need to listen to it again, but first spin didn't hit me. Some music I've bought does not click until the second or third try. That said, Rory is one of my favorite musicians. You really can't miss with him. I Listen to his albums often.

Not At His Best Here
I saw Rory on this tour;he opened for Rush, was sensational, blew them off the stage. However, Jinx is not one of his better albums. The material has taken a turn for the worse. The opening track is an awkward attempt to keep up with 80's pop, something a blues performer of Rory's magnitude shouldn't have had to do.The rest is very basic, stripped down rock n'roll, which sounds like a good idea, but Rory was always much better than that. Doesn't sound like a lot of production went into this one either. Buy this only after you own his best 70's efforts.Still can't rate his worst efforts lower than a 3.

Ordinary
I bought this one for my brother who's been looking for it for years. To me, it sounds like plain rock'n'roll. Sometimes very bluesy... even though the best track is the bonus ballad »Easy Come Easy Go«.What annoys me are Rory's vocals. Not really a superb singer, and this kinds of downlevels the otherwise OK rock'n'roll.»Jinx« is mainly for Rory Gallagher fans! The CD booklet says it's symbolic for a difficult phase in his life, so maybe the fans will get much more out of the lyrics and the music.

2018 Release of 2017 CD Remaster From Original 1/4 Master Tape - The Definitive Version At Last
24 bit High Resolution re-mastering from the original 1/4 master tape by Andy Pearce & Matt Wortham at Wired Masters in 2017.All of the 2018 CD studio remasters released by UMC contain updated sleeve insert photos and track comments. There is no remix meddling this time; these are as the original releases. All have bonus track(s) except Deuce. Excellent sound quality throughout and the content needs no further comment other than it is Rory Gallagher doing what only he and his co-musicians could; a unique sound and a massive influence on many players that have followed.

Excellent remaster
Very clear remaster of excellent album. We certainly prefer this UMC version to our old Capo label copy.

great album, Rory is tops, but ...
This is my favourite Rory album, and I have everything he has done (I hope ;-)) Obviously this is not the 'objectively best' album he has done, but when I discovered him for myself first, this was his new album, so I have a personal sentimental attachment to it. It still holds many fantastic tracks whatever you think his really best album is (Irish Tour ?). I saw him live that year Jinx came out, and I have a picture with him letting me hold his '61 Strat'. This is on my wall right now as I am writing this, so this makes me partial.I put a "but" in the title above because I have this album in vinyl too, and the remix they have done on the CD is not to my liking, especially on the title track - "Jinxed". The Cd version has killed the sound of one my favourite Rory solos ever: the harmonica is too much pushed forward, so I still prefer the vinyl version. I am not sure my criticism is objective: brother Donal writes in the cover notes that this remix is intentional, they wanted to highlight extra musical layers, so maybe I am an old (41 year-old) f.rt.Anyway, any self-respecting Rory fan will have the vinyl already, and will buy the CD too let alone for the 2 extra tracks.Rory is in any case and forever my favourite guitar player, and if you are a fan of today's Bonamassa and the like, you must have all his albums.
