Clean, neat book.

A first-rate collection of essays by historians, social scientists, and religious scholars from both Europe and North America. I first read this book in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks when anti-Muslim hysteria was running high in the West (although published in 2002, the essays were all written prior to the attacks). At the time, the book provided a sober, scholarly, and informative discussion of what had become became a volatile and sensitive subject. It was a good resource then and it remains a good resource today.
