Super radio for fieldwork and shortwave
What an excellent compact package for work overseas or when light packing is necessary! So many functions in this book-sized multi-band radio/recorder/alarm/world clock/etc. If you are new to shortwave access and need help, call the Sangean tech support line. The manual does not mention that you must set "Squelch" at zero, and know your geographic coordinates, in order to find SW stations. The reviewer on Amazon who said "shortwave does not work" probably did not know from reading only the manual how to access the function. That said, shortwave broadcasting stations are not so numerous as in the past.

Good Radio
I was impressed by the good quality of this radio and definitely I would recommend to any person who wants to listen to shortwave stations. If you are looking for a radio to recei=e FM and AM stations you should not get this one due to the high cost. This radio is for SW stations.

"Renewed" radio was like new
This review is for the Renewed product. I received the radio direct from Sangean. As expected, the retail box was unsealed, with "Renewed" stickers. The radio looks like new, and works perfectly. The user manual and all accessories were included, in like-new condition.Your mileage may vary. There's always some risk with renewed products, but Amazon's great return policy dispelled my worries. I think I was lucky to get this very fine radio at such a good price.

I think this is a great radio to have bedside or somewhere in the house if you like to listen to music. It's like my sangean pr-5d.

Scratches on LCD window
Renewed? Scratches on LCD. Battery compartment has sand and cover plate looks like it has been in water or acid, discolored. Does not meet my definition of "Renewed". Depending on light and angle scratches visible 4 feet away. The unit does work.

no receive shortwave reception even with extra antenna
no receive shortwave reception even with extra antenna. tried everything. different times of day, longer antenna. nothing really comes in clearly enough to listen comfortably or enjoy. Also tuner wheel falls off while scanning for stations.
